Africa is the mother of fintech and mobile money. Africa’s GDP is estimated at roughly US$3.1 trillion today, with digital (e-commerce, fintech, automation/artificial intelligence, to name a few of the leaders) contributing about $200 billion.
In 2016 there were 314 innovation hubs in Africa supporting technology-based start-ups. Today they are nearly 700 – including a couple of cutting edge and digital fabrication libraries (fab labs) at universities.
